Cedar Point - A Tourist's Guide to the Best Amusement Park in the World - Part 2
Holidays
Two major holidays celebrated during the Cedar Point calendar are Halloween and the Fourth of July. After Labor Day, Cedar Point is open on weekends only, up until Halloween. These are known as Halloweekends. They have Halloween decorations, parades during the day. By night, they have an outside version of a haunted house, a section with thick manufactured fog and ghouls jumping out of nowhere. There are also 10 indoor haunted houses.
The Fourth of July is always a big event at Cedar Point. There is a spectacular firework display. Guests who stay at the Cedar Point campground have an especially good view of this shooting right over Lake Erie. There are also several discounted activities on this weekend.
Places to Stay
There are many lodging options during your stay at Cedar Point. Multiple types are available - hotels, cottages, cabins, and camping. All of them offer discounted ticket prices, and most of them are within walking distance to the park.
The most famous of the lodging options is Hotel Breakers. It is more than a century old, and contains an elaborate lobby rotunda, and upscale restaurants. Located at the beach, it offers a wonderful view of both the park and of Lake Erie. They have whirlpools, an indoor pool, two outdoor pools, beach access, and complimentary shuttle service throughout the Cedar Point peninsula. Most visitors who stay at Hotel Breakers are vacationing at Cedar Point for multiple days.
There is a discounted version of Hotel Breakers called Breakers Express. It has less amenities than Hotel Breakers, but still provides an enjoyable stay. Most people who use Breakers Express are visitors planning to spend a day trip at Cedar Point. They generally live within driving distance of Cedar Point, and just want a place to spend the night so they don't have to drive out to the park the same day.
LIghthouse Point is generally used by visitors who are making an extended getaway. Located right by the old Cedar Point Lighthouse, this area has cottages and cabins. The cabins are slightly larger than the cottages, housing up to eight people as opposed to six for the cottage. The cabins have two additional amenities, a private patio, and a loft area, that the cottage does not provide. Both options contain television, air conditioning, and appliances.
For people who prefer camping, Cedar Point has a lakeside campground located just behind the Mean Streak. This is used by both extended stay and single day visitors. They have outlets for electricity and cable.
Boaters can enjoy their lodging stay at one of two marinas, Cedar Point Marina or Castaway Bay Marina. Cedar Point Marina is one of the largest docks in all of the Great Lakes, and offers access to convenience stores, wifi, eight passes to Castaway Bay, showers and bathrooms, and more. In addition, Famous Dave's barbecue and the fancy Bay Harbor restaruant are both located in the marina area. Castaway Bay Marina is located next to the Castaway Bay indoor water park near Cedar Point. It contains a few less amenities than the Cedar Point Marina, however it provides easy access to the year round indoor waterpark, Castaway Bay.
